Artwork for Music
One of the first things that got me started with graph design work was album artwork for friends and people I had around me that made music. It continues to be one of my favourite things to do. Being sound and energy specific is key and often requires meditation on the soundtrack over multiple listens in different spaces to pull of the essence of the song stylistically. This informs the design approach. I prefer mix media, collages and photography.

Alberta Number One
Alberta Number One is the latest feature film by Canadian director Alexander Carson. Produced by North Country Cinema with the participation of Telefilm Canada, the Alberta Media Fund, and the Canada Council for the Arts. A minimalist design approach that captured an idea of what the film addresses was the desire for the project. Maintaining a sense of boldness yet staying true to the cool tone and mood of the overall film.

Prior to the discussion with the rest of the contributors that led to the final poster, Alexander Carson and I had talked about some alternative designs that would have been used for a campaign due to the way that they relate to each other and communicate more about the film, These took a bit away from the minimalist design approach that was desired for the project and were therefore discarded but provided the biggest step towards the final design.

Musalad is a documentary for academic credit that is based on the collision of cultures that’s experienced by someone who has been exposed to and/or lived in more than one cultural environment or a multicultural city like Toronto. Musalad is a slur in Zimbabwean/Shona culture that means, “someone who is overly influenced by foreign culture to the point were their root culture may be unidentifiable,” and is derived from the word ‘salad’ to mean a mixture. Design choices that spoke to the multifaceted nature of the experience and perception of it was important to me and figuring out how to tie things together (conceptually) for the chapters in the documentary.

This animation was created for academic credit but intended to be for a show on YouTube focused on song lyrics or poetry and talking about them with local artist and musicians. From lyrics in their favourite songs to their own. The design was meant to be a play on the shreds of wisdom received from written works of art and the artists name .onlythefools, who hosts the show.

Ebenezer Nurseries and Landscaping (Pvt) Ltd is a plant nurseries, landscaping and cleaning services company based in Harare, Zimbabwe. They required a logo re-design, business cards and uniform concepts for the company to use on a day to day. The logo needed to make use of floral elements and be appropriate for the cultural environment in which the company exists. There was a strong preference for imagery over ligature and emphasis on the use of green and pink in the colours.

Panyatsime is a heritage and culture centre located 37 kilometres east from Harare’s Central Business District. They require a logo, flyers and brochures to provided information about the location immediately after they launched. Drawing inspiration from Great Zimabwe (capital of the Kingdom of Zimbabwe during the country's Late Iron Age that is notable for its impressive dry-stone walls, and being the largest stone structure in precolonial Southern Africa) plus elements that exude the energy and life of what has carried on with Zimbabwean culture now.

Which Came First was a infographic design project for academic credit. All the information shown was provided as a simple text document with not instruction outside of making sure that all the information provided should be seen on the page. The hierarchy of information, what was to be represented as a graph or chart, colours, illustration to be made and overall structure of the infographic was to be determined by the designer.

Sex&Skysurfing or S&S is an ongoing collaborative poetry and photography series that is intended to be turned into a book series and gallery show in the distant future. I am the art director and graphic designer for the project and am still in the process of putting together the structure and collaborators for the project to come to life. This is the current draft of how it is to be presented as a final product but still requires a bit of work and financing to bring to life.
